Cuba-Libya-Pakistan-Bangladesh participating
The states that sent representatives to participate
included Cuba,(non-muslim), Pakistan,Cyprus,Libya,Greece
(non muslim) and Bangladesh, as reported by the daily's
special correspondent supported by a sfatt correspondent.
2.Mr.Akbar, who advertises himself being publishing partner of
The New York Times, is exposed with other speakers on
stage by a three column photo on the front page. According
to the daily's special correspondent, among the speakers
some tried to whip u passions. The voice of sanity, the
special corresondent said was that of Mr.Akbar.
Mr.Akbar cited comparison to Saddam Hussain and 18th century
Mysore ruler Tippu Sultan, who fought against the British. Mr.Akbar
reportedly said:" as long as Saddam was alive, the U.S.could not
have entered" (what remains unreported. " Saddam is the second
martyr to fall to the imperialistic forces".
"Mr.Akbar was highly critical of India's response to the execution
of Saddam". Mr.Akbar was a specialist in Middle Eastern
affairs. He had written books including "Shae of Swords" in
justification of Jihad, "Riot after Riot" on lawlessness and
revolution, and "Blood Brothers " his own autobiographical
fiction.
The 30,000 strong crowd gave "Mr.Akbar editor-in
chief of The Asian Age and Deccan Chronicle- a standing
ovation", when he said " the U.S. tried its best to make Saddam
look meek with his head down on his way to the gallows".
"He did not surrender but fought against the U.S. and died
holding his head high" etc.
(The gist culled from Mr.Akbar's own Bangalore Age front page
dated 20-01-2007). Great journalism ideed! Riots started within
hours his speech and lasted for the nex thee days.Law and order
remained disrrupted in Bangalore causing one death,50 injuries,
arson and looting, destruction, damage for private and
public properties.)KB:
