yoga (18)

gradual
internalization
of the mind

By Kulamarva Balakrishna

Vienna,Wednesday,February 19,2008:I think it is
appropriate here to give some elaboration since
the tendency among the marketing gurus claiming
special brands is to mystify the subject. There are
three consecutive developments guiding the
inhibited mind end up in the first stage of subjective
samadhi known as =samprajnata=.This is derived
by full detachment of the internalized mind after
its purification. These are explained by me before
in military terms like identifying the territory to be
possessed,covering the territory by mentally
exploring it before submerging it entirely. Then
the mind is in the status of possession of the
territory. The territory is subject. Even in samadhi
status there is awareness of the possession.
This is culmination. Understanding, a sense of
association with the targeted subject,resulting
happiness on account of the achievement
connected to one´s own individuality awareness.
Let me explain it here as a painter achieves
a figurative or representative painting. In the
next stage the painter goes abstract. Not at
once but gradually causing a slow disappearance
of the figure. At some higher stages of the
abstractness figures evaporate as in a distant
mountain land scape or sky scape. In internalized
inhibited mind scape also a seeker passes
through to higher levels with a pure heart, thus
=samprajnata= is then the last recognized
base of final assault on the summit.

Then the subject disappears making way to the
samadhi known as =asamprajnata= where
the internalized subject gets saved in mind
file, that is getting spiked in yogic memory.
Then there is no memory loss because it
has been stored for intuitive response when
time arises. With seed or without seed etc are
mere words leading us to a single disappearance.
The possessed territory is there, occupation
is there all unobtrusively as if part of the nature.

That is the key.Until a student becomes part
and parcel of the entire nature total by continuous
not interrupted samadhi there would be a series
of =samprajnata= and =asamprajanata= samadhis
for experience.By conquering all the territories
a king becomes the emperor.By communion with
universal nature the yogi becomes that emperor.
That is the goal where no desire, no hate, no fear
or sense of insecurity bother him.He is all
happiness enjoying himself.After conducting a
survey of the whole region of the samadhis, then
Patanjali goes to explain the route to reach the
region. We will walk around the samadhi region
next.(end)

Mava, I liked this encapsulation very much.
I think it is one of the best I have read on Yoga.
Love,
Srinivasa

Dear Balakrishna,
A small doubt.
Do you believe in what Patanjali says? Is
Patanjali the ultimate truth? Are Freud and
Jung correct in analyzing the mind in their
way? Who is better? Incidentally I had heard
a series of lectures by Dr. Kapoor (Son on law
of Dr. Shivarama Karanth) talk latter four
states of the mind- that was about a few
years back.

Thank you Prof.Rao.
I believe, Patanjali was a great intellectual
of his time.He can help us to link up with
what we have lost on the way to this simplified
cartoon civilization. I can not eat Shukrunde
and Mozart Kugel at the same time. Both
are tasty when eaten separate giving a gap
of time for appreciation. As for Dr.Kapur,
I have not heard him or read anything from
him,you do not mean Maharishi Mahesh
Yogi´s chela Dr.Kapur,just like Dr.Chopra,
the tv star.As for the late Dr. Shivarama
Karanth, I have seen the list of one thousand
works by him made by Ms.Malini Mallya,
I hope I am correct in her name. According
to that list India Book House caricature works
he translated to Kannada that too written by
Kamla Laxman and others like her.All the
same, he lent his weight and prestigious name
to the original translations of vertical gossip.
Perhaps that is why he got his dozens of
honorary doctorates.
